The Chicago Hilal Committee has issued a statement against the decision of the Fiqh Council of North America to use astronomical calculations as the sole criterion of beginning and ending Islamic Months.

Jami'yyatul Ulama Canada, Canadian Council of Muslim Theologians (CCMT) & The Hilal Committee as always will continue to determine all Islamic months through the actual local sighting of the moon with the naked eye (ru'yah) as instructed in accordance to the Quran and Sunnah.
